Padres make roster changes

The Padres have 42 players still in major league camp, 35 of those are already on the 40-man roster, the 7 remaining are battling for the final 2 spots.

The San Diego Padres came back from China and immediately got to work at narrowing down their roster to 40.

The start of those moves was Edgar Gonzalez, the older brother of Padres 1st baseman Adrian Gonzalez, who was reassigned to minor league camp. Pitcher Mark Gardner was outrighted back to the New York Yankees, which had to happen if he wasn't going to make the Padres roster since he's a Rule 5 draftee.

Here are the remainder of the moves....

Reassigned:

Paul Abraham
Arturo Lopez
Wade LeBlanc
Marshall McDougall
Matt Antonelli
Mike Baxter
Will Venable
Drew Macias
Vincent Sinisi
Nick Hundley
Jose Lobaton

Optioned to the Minors:

Colt Morton (Portland)
Mauro Zarate (Portland)
Ernesto Frieri (San Antonio)
Wilton Lopez (Lake Elsinore)
