Edmonds out 2-3 weeks, may miss Opening Day

Edmonds pulled up lame on his way to first base on Thursday afternoon and the team originally thought it was a calf strain and scheduled the center fielder for an MRI earlier this afternoon.

According to doctors, the injury is worse than the team had first thought and could sideline Edmonds for the next 2-3 weeks or longer.

When asked if the Padres were going to look to make a trade to bring in another center fielder, Padres' GM Kevin Towers replied "We're not going to rush into it. We'll wait a week to 10 days to see how Jimmy is doing. It will give us a chance to look at these other guys to see how they handle center field."

Those other guys could include Jody Gerut, Callix Crabbe, Scott Hairston and Jeff DaVanon.
