With the Padres close to the end of Spring Training games, it's looking more and more like center fielder Jim Edmonds will start the season on the disabled list.
General Manager Kevin Towers, "I think he's still a ways away from being in a game. There is still a chance that he'll be ready for Opening Day, but until he plays in some games and feels comfortable. It's tough to tell because he hasn't done any baseball-specific activities, he's just starting to do that. He's pushed it a little bit."
Towers went on to say that they want to have their 25-man roster set before they leave Arizona on March 27th. Meaning, they might put Edmonds on the disabled list retroactive to March 21st which would force him to miss the first 5 games of the regular season. Though, only 5 games being missed isn't something the Padres should be, or probably are, all that concerned about.
With that information known, the Padres could slide Scott Hairston into center field with Jody Gerut or Callix Crabbe in left. Why not Chase Headley you ask? It's seeming more and more like he'll start the year in Portland, but I hope I'm wrong about that.
