The San Diego Padres moved one step closer to finalizing their 25-man roster for the start of the regular season that opens on Monday.
The Padres optioned infielders Oscar Robles, Craig Stansberry and Brian Myrow to AAA Portland, as well as assigning outfielder Chip Ambres and pitchers Adam Bass and Shawn Estes to their Minor League camp.
Also, with Jim Edmonds possibly starting the year on the DL, it means that Callix Crabbe, Jody Gerut and Paul McAnulty could all make the team and may share duties in left field with Scott Hairston starting in Center to replace Edmonds.
Adam Bass also could find his way onto the roster, especially since Rule 5 draftee Carlos Geuvara could start the year on the DL.

The first injury award goes to....
Well, we have the first injury casualty of spring training. The distinction goes to right-hander Carlos Geuvara who suffered a strained hamstring and will be limited for the next week to 10 days, which includes no bullpen work according to manager Bud Black.
Guevara was a Rule 5 draft selection back in December and figures to be in the mix to land one of the few bullpen spots remaining along with another Rule 5 pitching in Mike Gardner.
